controller

A hardware device that controls other devices and/or processes in a control system, usually for industrial automation, remote monitoring, or data acquisition.

An Opto 22 controller is a programmable automation controller (PAC) that may be a standalone unit or an on-the-rack unit. On-the-rack units also act as I/O processors for local I/O points.

All Opto 22 controllers run flowchart-based control programs (strategies) you develop using PAC Control software. The controller follows commands in the strategy to read inputs, perform logic and mathematical calculations, and write to outputs on I/O units. Reading inputs and writing to outputs is not done continually (as in a PLC), but only when required by the strategy logic.
